INSIGHT: Fluid Cities

Sydney Community Foundation and The Office Space have paired
up in 2018 to present INSIGHT – a monthly talk series that brings together entrepreneurs, business and community leaders to explore burgeoning topics, revealing their unique insights.

Attending INSIGHT is also a great way to donate to SCF with all proceeds supporting our Women’s Business Incubator program in Warwick Farm.

Join us Friday 28 September for drinks and canapes up on the Paramount Rooftop within the beautiful Rec Club Pavilion in Surry Hills.

This month INSIGHT will be partnering with the Sydney Architecture Festival and Right Angle Studio to host “Fluid Cities”, a discussion on how Australian cities can be more “fluid”, more organic and adaptive, in the face of increasing density, diversity and demand.
INSIGHT considers the role of architects and an army of data scientists, placemakers, urban planners, sustainability experts and policy makers to keep our cities connected, considered, and liveable.

In the face of increasing density, diversity and demand, we consider how cities can be more “fluid”, more organic and adaptive, surging and receding in step with the changing needs of its inhabitants. We also ask how movement flow can be improved across and between cities, and how to create compelling and functional public and private spaces where people can pool and gather.

Helping us to understand the role of design, planning and good policy in managing the ebbs and flows of a city in flux are our panel guests:

Philip Vivian, Director, Bates Smart: Philip has led the Sydney studio of Bates Smart for over 20 years, 24 AIA Design Awards along the way.  Philip is highly sought for his vision and critical thinking, he talks regularly on cities, density, tall buildings and sustainable urban development.

Kim Crestani, Director, Order Architects: With extensive experience in transport and city planning, Kim has been a senior advisor to Parramatta City Council, the International Convention Precinct, Westconnex and Sydney Metro projects.

Bruce Taper, Director, Kinesis: Formerly the director of Sustainability and Metropolitan Planning (NSW Department of Planning), Bruce founded Kinesis in 2007 to work with business and government on carbon, sustainability and public policy strategies.

Insight with be co-moderated by regular host Naomi Tosic, co-founder of The Office Space, and Barrie Barton, Director of Right Angle Studio and the Paramount Recreation Club.

Barrie Barton is a lawyer by qualification, an entrepreneur by nature and a passionate urbanist who has spent most of his adult life thinking about the relationship between where we live and the sorts of people we become. He is the director of Right Angle Studio, a business dedicated to understanding and improving life in cities.

We will be hosting this months Insight at Paramount Recreation Club Rooftop pavilion. We hope to see you there!
