A Committee for Sydney breakfast on International Women’s Day 2019 presented the findings of recent research –
‘Safety after dark: Creating a city for women living and working in Sydney’.
An expert panel talking how and where women feel unsafe in our city. Naming the commute to work as a particular issue. Panelist – Ann Sherry calls for boards to consider this an OHS issue.
“We receive reports and respond when someone breaks a leg or gets hit by a bus on the way to work, why aren’t we recording and acting on the harassment of women who should be able to move safely to and from work.”

Congratulations to Monash University’s #xyzlab, Plan International and Committee for Sydney for creating this valuable data set. We encourage all employers to read it and implement the changes that they can to keep half our population safe.
